About Matroda
Matija Rodić, known professionally as Matroda, is a Croatian DJ and producer from Zagreb who has become one of the most exciting and genre-defying names in contemporary house music. Blending classical training in violin, drums, and keyboard with diverse influences from Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles, Matroda has created what his fans affectionately call "matrodasound"—a unique sonic identity characterized by explosive bass house and garage impressions, infectious grooves, and fearless experimentation. His musical journey began at the height of the electronic dance music boom, and his natural talent, combined with relentless work ethic, has propelled him from the underground clubs of Croatia to the world's biggest festival stages.
Matroda made his debut in 2013 with the single "Some Strange Voices," followed by his 2014 EP
I Am Matroda featuring early tracks like "Phunkshock." While these releases showed promise, it was his 2015 breakthrough that truly launched his career. Collaborating with tech house legend Chris Lake on a remix of SNBRN's "California," featuring the powerful vocals of Kaleena Zanders, Matroda created an electric festival anthem that caught fire across the globe. The track charted on Beatport's Top 100 for several weeks and received support from industry heavyweights including Diplo, Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Porter Robinson, Knife Party, Deorro, and Hardwell. This pivotal moment put Matroda on the map as an up-and-coming producer and opened doors to releases on prestigious labels including Mad Decent, Confession, and UKF.
In 2016, Matroda dropped the bass house anthem "Chronic," which further solidified his reputation for creating dancefloor weapons. His career trajectory accelerated with standout releases including "Shut it Down" EP and performances at renowned venues like Avalon Hollywood for his Los Angeles debut. By 2019, Matroda had released one of the year's most influential albums,
The RED Tape, featuring collaborations with Kaleena Zanders and Dances With White Girls. The album earned runner-up honors for best album of the year following AC Slater's
Hi8 at #1, and spawned massive hits including "Walk In The Spot" (over 3.3 million streams on Musical Freedom) and "Lose Control" with Wax Motif, both of which became 2019 house anthems that dominated festival circuits worldwide.
The year 2020 marked another major milestone when Matroda released "Forget It" via Insomniac Records, which has surpassed 74 million streams and received support from titans including Tiësto, Diplo, Martin Garrix, and David Guetta. His collaboration with Bleu Clair on "Disco Tool" rocketed to #1 on the Beatport tech house chart, leaving lasting impressions on the industry and dancefloors alike. That same year, he launched his label Terminal Underground to release his own productions while supporting emerging talent in the bass house and tech house scene. The label's debut release was his
Jack The House EP, which showcased his evolving sound and commitment to pure groove-driven club music.
In 2021, Matroda attained the 25th best producer spot (later moving to #19 in 2022) on 1001Tracklists' prestigious chart following a string of Beatport #1 hits and surpassing one million monthly listeners on Spotify. He released the sequel
Jack The House 2, which focused on pure groove and featured standout tracks including "Play The Music." Notable releases during this period included "La Pasion" with San Pacho, which reached top 10 status on Beatport's Tech House Chart, and "Lifting" on Insomniac Records. In 2022, he collaborated with Wax Motif on the Latin tech house burner "La Candela Viva" and with Bleu Clair on the thumping soundscape "PWR," while releasing "Gotta Let You Go" and "Come With Me" featuring Rhiannon Rose, further expanding his discography and cementing his reputation for versatility.
Throughout 2023 and 2024, Matroda continued his relentless release schedule with standout tracks including "Can't Fight The Feeling," "Saturday Love," "Good Girls," "About To Lose It,"
Late Night Talks EP, and "4U" with Martin Ikin. His performances at major festivals including EDC Las Vegas (Kinetic Field), EDC Mexico, EDC Orlando, Miami Music Week, Tomorrowland, Nocturnal Wonderland, Amsterdam Dance Event, Electric Zoo, and countless sold-out club shows at venues like Space Miami, Club Space, Noa Beach Club, Ushuaïa Ibiza, and Hollywood Palladium solidified his status as one of dance music's most in-demand live acts. His WAXTRODA project with Wax Motif—including performances at EDC Orlando and the massive Waxtroda Block Party—has become legendary for its high-energy, genre-bending sets.
In June 2025, Matroda released
Variations In Production Vol. 1 via Insomniac Records, a bold four-track EP that reimagines his signature house anthems as high-octane drum and bass weapons. The project features blistering drum and bass VIP remixes of "Forget It," "Saturday Love," "4U," and "Gimme Some Keys," showcasing Matroda's fearless creativity and willingness to push beyond genre boundaries. After years of road-testing these remixes in his sets—including a massive moment on the Kinetic Field mainstage at EDC Las Vegas—these long-awaited VIPs finally saw official release. Recent releases also include "House x Pressure" (2025), "License To Be Bad" featuring Lovlee with Ciszak (2025), and "Bullshit" (2025), proving that Matroda's studio output shows no signs of slowing down.
Matroda's approach to DJing is instinctual and organic—he never plays the same set twice and allows the groove to guide his creativity. His philosophy is simple: stay true to yourself, sound unique, don't chase trends, and focus on creating music that resonates authentically. Through Terminal Underground, he continues to champion emerging talent in bass house and tech house, releasing music from artists including OOTORO, Cave Studio, San Pacho, and Honey&Badger. With over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, releases on prestigious labels including Insomniac Records, Cr2 Records, Repopulate Mars, Ultra Records, HARD Records, and Confession, and a global touring schedule that spans continents, Matroda represents the future of house music—an artist unafraid to experiment, evolve, and push the genre forward while maintaining underground credibility and authenticity. As he continues to dominate dancefloors worldwide with his "matrodasound," one thing is certain: the road is only just beginning for this Croatian trailblazer with a promising future ahead.
