About Metro Boomin
Metro Boomin — born
Leland Tyler Wayne on September 16, 1993, in St. Louis, Missouri — is widely regarded as one of the most influential record producers in contemporary hip-hop and trap music. He began producing at just 16 years old and relocated to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College in 2012, quickly embedding himself in the city's thriving rap scene and building relationships with Future, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, and 21 Savage.
Metro's production breakthrough came with co-producing iLoveMakonnen's 2014 hit "Tuesday," followed by an explosive 2015–2016 run that included Future and Drake's
What a Time to Be Alive mixtape, "Jumpman," Migos' "Bad and Boujee," and Future's "Low Life" featuring The Weeknd. His unmistakable producer tags — most famously,
"If Young Metro don't trust you, I'm gon' shoot you" — became cultural touchstones of the trap era.
As a lead artist, Metro released his debut studio album
Not All Heroes Wear Capes (2018), which debuted at
#1 on the Billboard 200. His follow-up,
Heroes & Villains (2022), also debuted atop the Billboard 200 and spawned
"Creepin'" (with The Weeknd and 21 Savage), which peaked at
#3 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2024, Metro and Future released the back-to-back collaborative blockbusters
We Don't Trust You and
We Still Don't Trust You, both debuting at
#1 on the Billboard 200.
We Don't Trust You produced his first-ever Hot 100 #1 single,
"Like That" featuring Kendrick Lamar and Future — a track that helped ignite one of hip-hop's most talked-about feuds. The album also produced top-10 hits
"Type Shit" (with Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, #2) and
"Young Metro" (with The Weeknd, #9).
Throughout his career, Metro Boomin has accumulated over
100 Billboard Hot 100 placements, earned the
BET Hip Hop Award for Producer of the Year (2016), and received a
GRAMMY nomination for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 2024 ceremony. He has collaborated with virtually every major name in hip-hop, including Future, 21 Savage, Drake, Travis Scott, Kanye West, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Young Thug, Lil Baby, and A$AP Rocky. He is also the founder of his own imprint,
Boominati Worldwide, in partnership with Republic Records and Universal Music Group.
