About Stevie J
Steven Aaron Jordan, known professionally as
Stevie J, is a Grammy Award-winning record producer, DJ, songwriter, and television personality from Buffalo, New York. As a core member of
Bad Boy Records' legendary in-house production team
The Hitmen, Stevie J helped craft the signature sound that defined hip-hop and R&B in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
His production credits read like a greatest hits compilation of the era: he produced
The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Notorious Thugs" from the classic
Life After Death album, the #1 tribute anthem "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans (which spent 11 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100), 112's breakout hit "Only You," and
Mariah Carey's chart-topping singles "Honey" and "Breakdown" from her
Butterfly album.
Stevie J won a
Grammy Award for Best Rap Album for his work on Puff Daddy's debut
No Way Out (1997) and received an additional Grammy nomination for his contributions to Mariah Carey's
Butterfly. In the summer of 1997, three of his productions—"I'll Be Missing You," "Mo Money Mo Problems," and "Honey"—topped the Billboard Hot 100 consecutively for over three months. He also co-wrote Eve's Grammy-winning hit "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" featuring Gwen Stefani.
His production discography spans work with
Jay-Z,
Beyoncé,
Lil' Kim,
Mary J. Blige,
Tevin Campbell,
Brian McKnight, and countless others. Beyond the studio, Stevie J became a household name as a primary cast member of VH1's
Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta beginning in 2012.
