About Lil Tjay

Tione Jayden Merritt, known professionally as Lil Tjay, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born April 30, 2001 in the South Bronx, New York City. Influenced by artists like Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne, Tjay developed a distinctive melodic rap style that seamlessly blends hook-driven R&B sensibilities with gritty street narratives.

Tjay's career took off at just 16 years old when his 2017 single "Resume" went viral. He signed with Columbia Records following the success of his 2018 breakout hit "Brothers," which earned triple platinum certification from the RIAA. His guest appearance on Polo G's 2019 smash "Pop Out" peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100—a collaboration that has since been certified 9x platinum.

His debut studio album True 2 Myself (2019) peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold, featuring the hit single "F.N." His sophomore album Destined 2 Win (2021) also debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and featured the smash single "Calling My Phone" with 6lack, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the UK Singles Chart—becoming the highest-charting single of his career. The album boasted collaborations with Polo G, Fivio Foreign, Offset, Moneybagg Yo, Saweetie, Tyga, and Toosii.

In June 2022, Tjay survived a harrowing shooting in New Jersey where he was shot seven times during an attempted robbery. His remarkable recovery inspired the emotional single "Beat the Odds," and he returned stronger than ever with his third studio album 222 (2023), which charted at #24 on the Billboard 200. Additional hits include "In My Head," "Not in the Mood" (with Fivio Foreign and Kay Flock), "Zoo York" (with Fivio Foreign and Pop Smoke), and Pop Smoke's "Mood Swings" featuring Tjay.

In 2024, Tjay departed Columbia Records and released the Farewell EP featuring Polo G, NLE Choppa, and G Herbo. He has continued releasing music independently in 2025 with singles and projects including "No Hook," "Different" (with 42 Dugg), "Focus on the Music," and "Letter to My Block." His catalog has amassed billions of streams across platforms with multiple platinum and gold certifications.
