About MK
Born Marc Kinchen in Detroit, Michigan, MK grew up immersed in the city's legendary music culture — learning his craft in the studios of Detroit techno pioneers before relocating to New York and embedding himself in the Garage House scene alongside Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry, and Masters at Work. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s with underground house anthems like Burning, Always, and Love Changes — the latter two hitting number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play chart — as well as his iconic remix of Nightcrawlers' Push the Feeling On, a blueprint for vocal cut-up technique that directly influenced a generation of producers. After a successful detour into hip-hop and R&B — working with Will Smith, Quincy Jones, Willow and Jaden Smith, Tyrese, and Brandy — MK returned to his house music roots in the early 2010s, and his remix of Storm Queen's Look Right Through shot to number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2013, reintroducing him to a new global audience. The hits kept coming: 17 (2017) surpassed 120 million Spotify streams, Piece of Me with Becky Hill went platinum, and his 2023 collaboration with Dom Dolla, Rhyme Dust, won Best Dance/Electronic Release at the ARIA Music Awards.
