During this period, Mario also expanded his career into acting, appearing in films including Step Up (2006), Freedom Writers (2007), and television shows including season 6 of Dancing with the Stars (where he finished in fifth place), Empire (2018-2020), and the live television production of the Emmy-nominated musical Rent (2019). In 2024, he was runner-up on season 12 of The Masked Singer.
Mario's career experienced a major resurgence in 2024 when he released Glad You Came (December 2024) via Epic Records, his first album in six years. Executive produced by the renowned James Fauntleroy, the album included the radio hit "Keep Going (Aaaaahhhhh)," which peaked at #1 on Mediabase's R&B radio chart and #2 on Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay chart—marking Mario's first top 10 hit on the Adult R&B Airplay chart since 2005's "Let Me Love You." The album represented a full compass bringing everything back to the center, celebrating his love for music, his journey, and his connection with fans while reintroducing them to a new era of Mario.
In early 2025, Mario joined Mary J. Blige on her For My Fans Tour alongside Ne-Yo, performing 27 cities across North America from January through April. In November 2025, Mario released his Mood Swings EP via New Citizen/EMPIRE, an eight-track project featuring singles "Nobody But Us" and "Home" (featuring production by Dre Moon, Anthony Bell, and Courtlin Jabrae), with a guest appearance from Ty Dolla $ign. The EP showcases Mario's range with love songs, ballads, club records, and general R&B while maintaining his signature honesty and emotional vulnerability. He kicked off his headlining Nothing But Us Tour in November 2025, making stops in Richmond, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles, proving his enduring appeal and continued relevance in contemporary R&B.
Throughout his career, Mario has sold millions of albums worldwide, earned numerous accolades including Grammy nominations and Billboard Music Awards, and was ranked #98 by Billboard on their "Artist of the Decade" list. With over 12.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a catalog of timeless hits that spans over two decades, Mario continues to inspire new generations of R&B artists. His journey from a four-year-old dreaming of becoming a singer to a multi-platinum, award-winning artist who has overcome personal struggles and maintained artistic integrity serves as an inspiration to aspiring entertainers worldwide.
